DUKC® Vessel Traffic Systems (VTS)
OMC International’s DUKC® VTS is a unique tool which provides operators of Vessel Traffic Systems (VTS) with real-time UKC management advice. Based on OMC’s award winning Dynamic Underkeel Clearance (DUKC®) technology, the DUKC® VTS monitors the position, speed and underkeel clearance of deep draft vessels sailing through port approach channels and shallow waterways.
The DUKC® VTS enables monitoring of the vertical dimension during the passage of a ship. This allows the operator to foresee possibilities of hazardous situations which are ahead in the channel using real-time information. Unforeseen circumstances can be better managed on the spot because of the real time information availability and the technology to process it to aid decision making. The DUKC® VTS system also allows the port or waterway authority to monitor and keep an audit trail of transits in the vertical dimension.
The DUKC® VTS completes a suite of three integrated products for the management of vessel underkeel clearance:
(i) shore-based DUKC® System which operates from 36 hours up until a transit begins, using real-time environmental data, vessel data and proven ship motion models to safely maximise draft or tidal windows (see separate brochure);
(ii) on-board DUKC® PPU (Portable Pilot Unit) which enables marine pilots to optimise a vessel’s speed to provide minimum transit times through port channels, consistent with requirements for maintenance of adequate UKC (see separate brochure); and,
(iii) shore-based DUKC® VTS system which enables VTS operators to monitor the safety of deep-draft vessels in the vertical dimension (to augment existing VTS capabilities for management of vessel safety in the horizontal dimension).
Benefits SAFETY FIRST – DUKC® VTS provides real-time information during transit for optimal safety & vessel speed optimisation.
Features
UKC Management The DUKC® VTS enables shore-based monitoring of the effect of vessel speed on underkeel clearance.
System Synching The DUKC® VTS synchronises quickly and easily with the land-based DUKC® System and with DUKC® PPU units onboard multiple ships.
Live Vessel Speed and Position Determination Continuously updates vessel speed and position from ship-based AIS and GPS and from land-based radar.
Live Metocean Feeds Receives real-time met-ocean data updates via connection with a shore-based DUKC® System.
3rd Party Software Interoperability The DUKC® VTS can be configured to operate with any VTS System which receives real-time data on ship position and speed.
