OMC’s world-leading DUKC® technology taught at university
Case study examples of OMC International’s Dynamic Under Keel Clearance (DUKC®) technology will be taught at Melbourne’s Swinburne University of Technology next week in a move that could see DUKC® eventually become a standard education tool for future port engineers, says a Swinburne engineering professor.
Professor Alexander Babanin, from Swinburne’s Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences, said this postgraduate port engineering unit, first run last year with the support of Ports Australia, would now be taught every year.

New contract puts OMC International in the spotlight – again!OMC International has won a contract to install its Dynamic Under Keel Clearance (DUKC®) management system in Rio Tinto's Western Australian Cape Lambert port, OMC announced today, following the naming of its Founder and Executive Director Dr Terry O’Brien in the Australian Honours List.
This new contract also includes an extension of the existing DUKC® contract for Rio Tinto shipping operations at the port of Dampier.
Cape Lambert is the 21st DUKC® installation for this family-owned maritime engineering firm founded in 1987 by Dr O’Brien, who was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on Monday for services to the maritime transport industry.

OMC wins AMSA's Torres Strait contract
Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has signed-off for OMC International’s under keel clearance management (UKCM) system to be installed in Torres Strait to enhance shipping safety. This signing also marks the launch of OMC’s web-based product, OMC announced today. This release of the Next Generation Dynamic Under Keel Clearance (DUKC®) product suite, DUKC® Series 5, will give authorised users easier access to this system and AMSA will be the first client.

OMC International to open new office in South America
OMC International will open a new office in South America next month in a bid to help make the region’s ports and waterways more efficient and safer by introducing UKC management technology to the shipping industry, particularly for the bulk carriers.
Executive Director Dr Terry O’Brien said Melbourne-based OMC’s award-winning navigation technology could help boost South American trade because it allowed vessels to carry more cargo while ensuring safe navigation through shallow, draught restricted waterways.

DUKC® helps Port Hedland set ship loading record
Port Hedland Port Authority (PHPA) has approached OMC International to investigate how its proven DUKC® technology can help the port regularly repeat its recent record of five ships sailing on the one tide, says OMC chief Dr Terry O’Brien.
PHPA grabbed media headlines when it announced that it had sailed five capsize bulk carriers (four BHP Billiton Iron Ore and one Fortescue Metals) on the morning high tide on Friday, June 26, with a combined total cargo of 841,062 tonnes.
